Jamie Lee Curtis wants Doctor Kureha role in One Piece season 2

September 23, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Most fans know Jamie Lee Curtis loves One Piece, even noting her favorite character is Tony Tony Chopper, but could her passion turn into a new role?

It seems like once actors are allowed to go for parts after the SAG-AFTRA strike, Curtis is a contender for a major role in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s live-action One Piece. At least, that’s what the star is teasing in a recent Instagram posting.

In a new post shared on Curtis’ social media, she makes her case for the role: “ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha.”

Doctor Kureha is known as an elderly doctor who works on Drum Island, often referred to as a witch” by some people. She is Tony Tony Chopper’s mentor and later joins the Straw Hat Pirates during the Drum Island Arc.

After the post was made public by Jamie Lee Curtis, showrunner Matt Owens addressed the casting, saying, “Mommy dearest, that’s why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work, let’s talk.”

From what we can tell, the role is certainly up for grabs, and we could surely see Jamie Lee Curtis get her nautical madness on.

The second season of One Piece is reportedly already written and will go into production after the strikes.

Inspired by the manga series, One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember. Motivated by his desire to become King of the Pirates, Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, ONE PIECE! But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy must assemble the crew he’s always wanted and find a ship to sail.

Featuring in the cast of One Piece are Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, alongside a cast that also includes Vincent Regan, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Morgan Davies, Aidan Scott, Langley Kirkwood, Jeff Ward, Celeste Loots, Alexander Maniatis, McKinley Belcher III, Craig Fairbrass, Steven Ward, and Chioma Umeala.

One Piece is now streaming on Netflix.
