Jason Momoa talks Aquaman and his part in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

February 28, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

After his version of DC’s Aquaman was seen around the globe last week, Jason Momoa has been able to open up about his role in the expanding DC Cinematic Universe, and what part the King of Atlantis will play in that, as well as next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly whilst promoting his new series The Red Road, Momoa spoke about how the water-based hero fits into Zack Snyder plans’s, and just how big his role is opposite Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader, Henry Cavill’s Man on Steel and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman in the 2016 release.

“It’s Batman and Superman,” he says. “It’s not my movie. It’s the first time in history to have them both on the screen together, and I’m just excited to see those two up there… Justice League is still quite a ways away. But I’m looking forward to it. Henry’s a sweetheart, Ben is a badass, so I’m really looking forward to when we all shoot Justice League.”

“There’s definitely a plan in this whole universe that [Zack Snyder] is designing…..and it’s amazing to be a part of it. I think everything that you see that is building, there’s a purpose behind the whole plan… What’s great about this is Zack, man. We don’t want to just reinvent it, but he’s a got a whole idea of what Aquaman should be and I’m really honored to be playing it. I’m excited for the world to see it.”

Momoa, who is perhaps best known as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones, also spoke about his surprise when the first picture of him as Aquaman came online last week.

“I’ve been holding that secret for a long time,” he says. “Zack Snyder called me up and said, “I’m posting this picture now.” He’s just a genius and I love him to death. He sent it over and we’re in the middle of the editing suite for the thing I’m doing right now, and we all freaked out, man. It was so amazing to see it come out.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to be unleashed in cinemas on March 25th, 2016, while Aquaman’s first solo outing is scheduled for July 2018, sandwiched between Justice League which will be released in two parts: Part One in November 2017 and Part Two in June 2019.
