Javier Bardem in talks to play villain in Pirates of the Caribbean 5

October 15, 2014 by Thomas Roach

Javier Bardem is said to be in talks to play the villain in the latest instalment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Javier Bardem is said to be playing a ‘ghost pirate’ who clashes with Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow. Jared Leto was also allegedly approached first for the role but bowed out, while Christoph Waltz was also rumoured for the villain role in the fifth instalment as well.

Javier Bardem’s wife, Penelope Cruz appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and could be set to reprise her role. Actors Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush and Jack Davenport have all been rumoured to return but there is no official word as of yet.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is set to shoot in Australia next year with Johnny Depp returning to the iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow and Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg directing. The film is set for release July 7th, 2017.

Do you think Bardem will make a good pirate villain? Let us know…
