Jeff Wadlow talks X-Force

July 22, 2013 by admin

On Saturday 20th Century Fox showcased its two upcoming mutant superhero movies The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past during the studio’s Hall H presentation at Comic-Con, although rumours that the studio also would take the opportunity to reveal its post-Days of Future Past plans for the Marvel franchise proved to be inaccurate.

However Cinema Blend caught up with Jeff Wadlow – director of Kick-Ass 2, and the recently announced screenwriter of X-Force – over the weekend and managed to get a few words about his progress on the script for the proposed X-Men spin-off.

“I’m pretty deep into it. I have the whole story completely worked out. I’m about 20 pages into my draft. If I wasn’t promoting Kick-Ass, I would probably have a draft [already], but Kick-Ass is going to slow me down just a little.“

Wadlow refused to be drawn into discussion about a potential roster for the X-Force team when asked about the importance of Cable as leader – potentially indicating that we might see a different X-Man heading up the group (one with adamantium claws, perhaps?):

“Here’s the thing, I love the current run of Uncanny X-Force. I love the classic run. Part of my take was addressing this idea that X-Force can be many different things, and that’s what got the studio excited. I think the fans will be excited, too.”

As yet, there’s no word on a possible release date for X-Force, although 20th Century Fox will unleash The Wolverine this week [read our ★★★★★ review here], with Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past following on May 23rd, 2014. Meanwhile Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2 opens in the UK on August 14th and in North America on August 16th.
