Jesse Eisenberg to play mime Marcel Marceau in Resistance

May 20, 2017 by Ricky Church

Jesse Eisenberg is set to star in a biopic as the famous French mime Marcel Marceau in Resistance. Rather than focus on his career as a mime, the film will tell the story of Marceau’s work within the French Resistance during World War II. It will be written and directed by Hands of Stone’s‘Jonathan Jakubowicz.

Marceau’s family fled to Ligomes when he was 16 just at the outbreak of World War II. After his father was taken to Auschwitz, Marceua became inspired by Charlie Chaplin to become a mime. During the war, Marceau used his job as a mime to save Jewish children by keeping them quiet on their escape to Switzerland. In his later life, he was awarded France’s National Order of Merit and was also made aGrand Officier de la Légion d’Honneur his work within the Resistance.

The film will enter production in early 2018. Marcaeu’s son, Baptise Marceau, has provided a lot of research and insight for his father in the film and will also be an executive producer. Jakubowicz’s Hands of Stone producers, Claudine Jakubowicz and Carlos Garcia de Paredes, will also produce Resistance. Eisenberg will next be seen reprising the role of Lex Luthor in November’s Justice League.
