Casting is now officially underway on the upcoming sequel to Independence Day, with Heat Vision reporting that Jessie Usher (Survivor’s Remorse) has joined the follow-up to the 1996 alien invasion blockbuster and will play the son of Will Smith’s character from the original.
Smith himself has declined the opportunity to reprise his role as Captain Steven Hiller, although co-star Jeff Goldblum will be back, along with new addition Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games), who was linked to the lead role back in January.
Independence Day 2 is set for release on June 24th 2016, with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin once again serving as director and producer respectively.
