John Wick: Chapter 3 gets summer 2019 release date

September 15, 2017 by George Chrysostomou

Perhaps one of the most surprising hits of  2014, John Wick was the movie that relaunched the career of Keanu Reeves and gave us an action film that was simple, well directed and featured fantastic practical action. The sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, also proved to be a success, expanding the world that Wick inhabits and gaining even more commercial and critical success.

John Wick: Chapter 3 was therefore a no brainer, but the release date may be even more surprising as it will be joining the summer movie season in 2019.

Meanwhile…JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 gets a release date…May 17, 2019. Summer movie season. The 1st Wick opened in Oct., 2nd opened in Feb.

As the tweet notes, neither of the previous instalments were released in the summer period, as such an untested property would have found itself struggling to compete against the super-hero flicks and big blockbusters we’ve become used too. The studio must have great faith in the John Wick franchise therefore to put the third instalment up against the likes of the fourth Avengers film and the Aladdin remake.
