John Wick director Chad Stahelski developing Shibumi adaptation

August 11, 2021 by Gary Collinson

While he’s currently tied up with production on John Wick: Chapter 4 and has several other projects on his slate, filmmaker Chad Stahelski has signed on to produce and potentially direct a feature adaptation of Trevanian’s 1979 novel Shibumi.

As reported by Deadline, Stahelski has long been a fan of the novel, which details the struggle between the “Mother Company” – a conspiracy of energy companies that secretly controls much of the western world, and a highly skilled assassin, Nicholaï Hel.

Stahelski is set to produce the adaptation with Alex Young and Jason Spitz through his 87Eleven production banner, although he’s yet to commit to the director’s chair and a writer is yet to become attached.

Along with Shibumi, Stahelski is also attached to the Highlander reboot, which recent cast Superman and The Witcher star Henry Cavill, as well as the video game adaptation Ghost of Tsushima. Which of these he’ll turn to first, we shall have to wait and see.
