Thomas Newman to replace John Williams as composer of Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies, first look image released

March 18, 2015 by James Garcia

Steven Spielberg’s upcoming Cold War thriller, Bridge of Spies, has lost beloved and iconic composer John Williams.

Williams had to drop out of the film due to a minor health issue that has reportedly now been corrected. Due to the sudden interruption in his schedule, Williams was unavailable to provide the score for the film. In his stead, twelve-time Oscar nominee Thomas Newman, known for his scores in films like The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, Skyfall and Saving Mr. Banks, will compose for the film, which stars Tom Hanks.

Williams, who is now 83 and busier than ever, will re-unite with Spielberg for the director’s next film, The BFG, which shoots later this year.
