Jordan Peele’s Candyman adds Colman Domingo and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett

August 16, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

With filming kicking off in Chicago this week, Deadline is reporting that the Jordan Peele-produced Candyman reboot has added Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead) and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett (Misfits) to its cast.

Described as a “spiritual sequel” to the cult 1992 horror, the new Candyman is being directed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods), and Domingo and Stewart-Jarrett join the previously announced Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) and Teyonah Parris (If Beale Street Could Talk) in the cast of the film.

The original Candyman starred horror icon Tony Todd as the title character, a former slave killed by a mob in the late 1800s over a forbidden romance, becoming a vengeful ghost who haunts and kills anyone who calls his name before a mirror five times in a row.

While Todd is yet to be confirmed for the cast, the actor did state himself back in May that Jordan Peele had been in touch with him about a role in the film and he was simply waiting on the contract. Whether he’ll be reprising the role of the Candyman, we shall have to wait and see…

Candyman is set for release on June 12th 2020.
