Josh Gad to write sci-fi comedy for Disney

April 24, 2014 by Gavin Logan

Having been bitten by the Disney bug whilst playing Olaf the Snowman in their most recent billion dollar blockbuster Frozen, it looks like Josh Gad will be re-teaming with the studio to work on an as yet untitled project. No details have been revealed yet but the project is set to be a live action family adventure comedy “with a sci-fi twist”. Gad will begin writing the script shortly with his writing partner Ryan Dixon. The duo are currently working on Triplets, the sequel to the Schwarzenegger/DeVito comedy Twins. Gad will next pop up on our screens in Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here and will join Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage and Michelle Monaghan in the summer to begin shooting on the Chris Columbus helmed comedy Pixels.

A few weeks ago Frozen surpassed the $1 billion mark and took over The Lion King as the highest grossing animated movie of all time. It now sits at number 6 on the All Time Worldwide Box Office list. The soundtrack also broke Simba and the gang’s record of most weeks at No.1 on the Billboard 200, now celebrating it’s 11th consecutive week at the top. Much of it’s success can be down to Gad’s hilarious performance and sweet rendition of ‘In Summer’ and of course the Oscar winning ‘Let It Go’ by Idina Menzel.
