Josh Trank was set to direct a Boba Fett movie before he was fired

When Disney and Lucasfilm first announced they were doing spin-off movies for their Star Wars franchise, one of the early rumoured titles was a Boba Fett and Han Solo film. While the Han Solo spin-off movie has already been announced, plans for a Boba Fett movie remained quiet. Well, it turns out it was going to be announced last year with Josh Trank in the director’s chair – before he was fired.

You may recall the drama surrounding last year’s Fantastic Four reboot, which saw Trank denounce the movie before it had even come out. It was then revealed that the film had major reshoots without Trank’s involvement and he was said to be very disruptive on set. During these re-shoots, Trank left the Star Wars movie he’d been announced for, and it was later revealed that he was fired (which he denied).

So far along the process for a Boba Fett movie was Trank, that – according to EW sources – Disney and Lucasfilm were going to announce the film with a sizzle reel of footage at Star Wars Celebration 2015, the event where they announced the title for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Whether or not we’ll still get the Boba Fett movie remains to be seen, but it certainly won’t have Trank in the director’s seat. This will, for now, have to remain as one of those ‘what ifs’.
