Marvel’s first female-led superhero film has made another big casting decision, with Variety revealing that Jude Law is joining the movie to star as the male lead opposite Brie Larson.
Carol Danvers was a member of the United States Air Force until an explosion at her air base combined her DNA with that of the alien race, the Kree, giving her super strength, flight and energy absorption. She then became the superhero known as Ms. Marvel, but recently assumed the full identity of Captain Marvel in the comics.
Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is reportedly playing the film’s villain, a Skrull warrior while Samuel L. Jackson is expected to reprise his role as Nick Fury, using a combination of make-up and technology to make him look younger as Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s. The film will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
UPDATE: It has now been confirmed by Variety that Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell (the original Captain Marvel), who becomes a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers.

Jude Law is also playing the role of a young Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter prequel/spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Check out a first look image from that film here.
Captain Marvel will begin filming next February for a March 8th, 2019 release. Larson is currently filming the untitled Avengers 4, which is scheduled a couple months later on May 3rd, 2019.
