Justice League has become the highest-grossing DC film in China

December 6, 2017 by Samuel Brace

In a spot of good news for Justice League, the film has become China’s highest ever grossing DC film.

Justice League hasn’t been performing well at its domestic box office, the high profile superhero blockbuster is currently tracking $100 million behind Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and over $50 million behind the DCEU’s lowest grosser, Man of Steel (via box office mojo).

However, things are looking better abroad, including in the world’s second biggest market, China.

Justice League has so far accumulated $98 million in the country (a record for DC), putting it ahead of Wonder Woman with $90.5 million, and Batman v Superman’s $95.7 million. Justice League has achieved this in just three weeks.

Of course, this isn’t accounting for inflation and who knows how well films like The Dark Knight would have performed in today’s climate rather than being released before China exploded onto the scene.

Never the less, this is good news for Justice League. Money is money and this puts the film’s worldwide total at $570 million.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League reunites Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
