We’re now just a week away from the hotly-anticipated release of Warner Bros.’ DC blockbuster Justice League, and during the press conference for the blockbuster, producer Deborah Snyder spoke about her husband Zack’s departure from the director’s chair, and how they hope that audiences will still be able to appreciate the movie, rather than focussing the happenings behind-the-scenes.
“I think, for us, this whole thing is so bittersweet,” said Snyder. “We had been working on this franchise for the last, almost eight years, when we’d been developing the script for Man of Steel, and then we moved on to Batman vs Superman and also, Zack developed the story for Wonder Woman, which was leading up to the point of Justice League, where the characters were going to come together. I mean, this was a great hero’s journey, and a journey for these characters to be the characters that they are today. So not being able to complete his vision was extremely difficult. Our feeling is, we’re hoping that people don’t think about how this movie was made when they go to see it, because these characters are bigger than any director, they’re bigger than any of us. We love and adore these characters.”

As we know, Joss Whedon came in to finish the movie for Snyder, scripting additional scenes and overseeing reshoots on the film, and producer Charles Roven has spoken to Newsday about Whedon’s influence on the final product, stating that while it is lighter than previous movies, it still works as a trilogy alongside Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman v Superman:
“I really don’t know how to break down the scenes that Joss wrote with Zack versus the scenes that he wrote later. If you take Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Justice League as a trilogy — they were all directed by Zack, with the third one having some influence by Joss — I would say this is the lightest of the three. That doesn’t mean it’s a comedy!”

Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf, and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) and Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
