This summer, the Justice League movie began some costly reshoots. Aside from vague explanations, and Henry Cavill’s moustache of course, we don’t know too many specifics of the reshoots, although these have reportedly involved working on the “connective tissue” of the film, as well as potentially altering the tone of the movie. Ever since Batman v. Superman, Warner Bros. has frantically tried to lighten up the following films on the DC slate. One could see this in marketing for Suicide Squad, as well as recent footage of Justice League.
Joe Morton – who plays Cyborg’s father Dr. Silas Stone in the upcoming film – has told IGN that some of the reshoots involved making “adjustments” to Ray Fisher’s Cyborg. This is what the actor had to say when asked about his involvement in the reshoots:
“Well, the stuff that I had to do were just really small little bits and pieces, nothing necessarily having to do with tone. I know that with Ray [Fisher], the young man who plays Victor, there were some adjustments that they made in terms of the tone of that character. I think what I heard was that there was a need from the studio to lighten up the film in a way, that the film felt too dark. I don’t know what that meant in terms of how it actually got translated in terms of the reshoots but that’s what I heard. That’s what I thought some of the reshoots were about.”
This isn’t surprising. Watching every trailer for Justice League so far, Cyborg seems to stand out as the least engaging. His CGI feels unfinished, and maybe that’s why, but there is something very generic about his character right now. Especially standing next to Jason Mamoa’s wild take on Aquaman, and Gal Gadot’s knockout Wonder Woman. Perhaps WB tuned into this, and is trying to make him more interesting? It sounds like these reshoots were very necessary, and will more than likely result in a more interesting, and cohesive film.
