Justice League’s “extensive reshoots” reportedly causing scheduling issues, Joss Whedon’s credit up in the air

July 25, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Back in May it was announced that Joss Whedon would be stepping in to oversee reshoots on Justice League following the untimely passing of Zack Snyder’s daughter, with rumours suggesting that these reshoots would be “significant” and will change the movie “tremendously”.

At Comic-Con, the cast played down this report, with Cyborg actor Ray Fisher describing them as “brief if anything”. However, according to a report in Variety, the reshoots are indeed extensive, with Warner Bros. spending upwards of $25 million for around three months of additional photography, which has caused all kinds of scheduling issues.

According to the site, Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot have not really been impacted by the reshoots, as they do not have any other projects lined up. However, Jason Momoa has been having to travel back-and-forth between London and Los Angeles for Justice League and Australia, where he’s currently shooting the Aquaman solo movie, while Warner Bros. has also had to manage Ezra Miller’s schedule around his work on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2.

Another big problem has been Henry Cavill’s commitments to Mission: Impossible 6; apparently, he’s been having to shoot his Superman scenes with the moustache he’s grown for MI:6, and that the Man of Steel’s ‘tache will have to be digitally removed in post-production.

As for the purpose of the reshoots, Variety’s source claims that they are being used to punch up the dialogue and work on the “connective tissue” linking Zack Snyder’s big set pieces, which will remain intact. The article also goes on to suggest that Whedon will likely receive a producing or screenplay credit for his work, although a tweet from Batman-News suggests that Warner Bros. is viewing Snyder and Whedon as co-directors on the movie…

Of course, the final decision on crediting won’t come down to Warner Bros., as that will be a decision for the Directors Guild of America.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K.
