Kate McKinnon to play Aphrodite in Percy Jackson and the Olympians

October 16, 2025 by Ricky Church

One of the most famous of the Olympian gods will be making her introduction in the third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Per Variety, Disney has cast Kate McKinnon (Barbie) as Aphrodite, the goddess of love.

The third season, which is currently in production in Vancouver, is based off Rick Riordan’s third book in the Percy Jackson series titled The Titan’s Curse. McKinnon will star in a recurring role as Aphrodite and offer her conditional help to Percy as he and his friends and allies attempt to stop the evil Kronos from breaking out of his prison.

In her role as the goddess, McKinnon’s Aphrodite “can alter her appearance depending on the beholder” and “must be sure that Percy Jackson respects the power and importance of love before she agrees to offer aid on his quest.” In the books, just as in Greek mythology, Aphrodite is often described as the most beautiful of the goddesses and indirectly started the Trojan War with her shrewd and manipulative tactics.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians was created by Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg, the latter showrunning the series with Dan Shotz. Steinberg and Shotz executive produce with Riordan and his wife Rebecca Riordan.

While season three is in production, fans do not have much longer to wait for season two’s premiere on December 10th. Based on The Sea of Monsters, Percy and his friends must travel across the deadly Sea of Monsters to find the mythical Golden Fleece in order to save Camp Half-Blood.

Percy Jackson returns to Camp Half-Blood one year later to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is changing, he learns he has a cyclops for a brother, Grover has gone missing, and camp is under siege from the forces of Kronos. Percy’s journey to set things right will take him off the map and into the deadly Sea of Monsters, where a secret fate awaits the son of Poseidon.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Glynn Turman as Chiron, and Toby Stephens as Poseidon. Season two will introduce Daniel Diemer, Timothy Simons, Tamara Smart, Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, Margaret Cho and Andra Day to the cast with Courtney B. Vance taking on the role of Zeus after Lance Reddick’s passing.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 will premiere on December 10th.
