Kenneth Branagh is Boris Johnson in This England trailer

May 18, 2022 by Amie Cranswick

Sky has released a first trailer the original limited drama This England. The series sees Kenneth Branagh playing UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson as his government attempts to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, and is directed by Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People).

The series, based on Boris Johnson’s tumultuous first months as UK Prime Minister, traces the impact on Britain of the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic. The drama takes us inside the halls of power, as Johnson (Kenneth Branagh) grapples with Covid-19, Brexit, and a controversial personal and political life. The events in government are interwoven with stories from around the UK, from the experts and scientists racing against time to understand the virus; the doctors, nurses and care-home workers on the frontline working tirelessly and heroically to contain and overcome it; and ordinary people whose lives were thrown into turmoil.

Joining Kenneth Branagh in the cast of This England are Ophelia Lovibond as Carrie Symonds, Andrew Buchan as Matt Hancock, Bitu Thomas as Priti Patel, and Simon Paisley Day as Dominic Cummings.

This England will air on Sky later in 2022.
