Kevin Feige says Black Widow will reveal what Natasha did in between major MCU movies

April 7, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Black Widow is quite an interesting film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only is this the kick-off of Phase Four of the MCU, but its the first Marvel movie to return from massive delays that hit every studio due to the global health crisis.

In a perfect world, the film starring Marvel’s long-running femme fatale would be opening in less than a month, but will now see its release in November. While this isn’t what MCU head honcho Kevin Feige would’ve wanted, he still took time to speak to Total Film Magazine about how vital this film will be for the character and the Marvel stories going forward.

“[We have] hinted at [Natasha Romanoff’s backstory] throughout all the other films,” says Feige. “We approach it in a completely unexpected way. She’s been up to a lot all along – in between when we see her in the other movies – some of which will be surprising to people.”

While we knew this film would take place in-between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, but this news seems to hint that we will see other gaps in between movies as well. Could we go as far back as to see the events after something like Iron Man 3 or Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Only time will tell.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Black Widow is being directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) and sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff alongside Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) as Yelena Belova, O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Mason, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina Vostokoff/Iron Maiden, and Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) and Olivier Richters (The King’s Man) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on November 6th, 2020.
