Killer teddy horror short Teddy Bears are for Lovers getting a feature adaptation

February 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The Joe Dante-produced 2016 horror short Teddy Bears are for Lovers is set for a feature film adaptation, which will mark the directorial debut of Lost and Cloverfield cinematographer Michael Bonvillain.

The original short, created by David Ernesto Vendrell, Matthew Hawksworth and Almog Avidan Antonir, followed a 20-something who is haunted by the teddy bears of his ex-girlfriends. Apparently, talks are now underway with Peter Jackson’s Weta Workshop about bringing the murderous teddy bears to life.

“It’s rare to find a project with the right balance of humor, scares and emotions that can make a film entertaining on so many various levels,” said Bonvillain. “This project, which at its heart is a love story, builds so many different layers on top of it to create an absolutely horrifying and hilarious thrill ride that keeps you entertained from start to finish. Having been involved as a cinematographer on a number of great films over the years that blended elements of horror and thriller with comedy, I’m excited to direct a project that I think hits all those notes and is hugely entertaining,”

Teddy Bears are for Lovers is the second horror short to be picked up for a feature film adaptation in recent days after Larry, which is being developed for the big screen by Amblin.
