Kingsman 2 title, concept art and plot details revealed

A number of interesting details about the sequel to 2015’s hit spy comedy Kingsman: The Secret Service are revealed in the newest issue of Empire (via CBM) by Matthew Vaughn, the film’s director.

According to the magazine, the upcoming 2017 film will be titled Kingsman: The Golden Circle. As reports suggested, Julianne Moore is set to take over for Samuel L. Jackson and play the main antagonist in the film, a woman named Poppy, while Halle Berry will also appear as a character named Ginger.

Early concept art was also released in the issue, which shows a severely damaged Kingsman HQ, the HQ for the Statesman, the US equivalent of the Kingsman, Poppy’s secret lair, Poppyland and the Kingsman’s underwater transportation cab. See all of the art down below…

Past statements about the sequel teased that the film would have a more “international” story, taking viewers to places outside of the UK. Apparently, a major storyline in the film is that after the Kingsman HQ is destroyed, Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and Merlin (Mark Strong) travel to the US to the Statesman, an intelligence agency run by Ginger (Berry) and a man named Jack. Jack is described as a “swaggering, sharpshooting cowboy.”

In an interview with the magazine on The Golden Circle, Vaughn said, “I didn’t know if I wanted to direct this or not. I was worried about the villain. Spy films are only as good as their villains. Then one morning I woke up with the whole storyline in place, and a new villain plot.”

Later the director commented on whether or not audiences would see another scene similar to the much-talked about and praised church scene in The Secret Service. He explained, “You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never seen before.”

Although another church scene may not be in the works, the film will feature everything from a skiing sequence, a barroom brawl, robot dogs and one-armed henchmen to a scene in which the characters battle a “a massive f***ing frankfurter.”

Kingsman: The Golden Circle will arrive in theaters on June 16th, 2017.
