Kristen Stewart is “really proud” of Charlie’s Angels, despite box office failure

December 16, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

This year’s Charlie’s Angels reboot may have tanked at the box office, but actress Kristen Stewart has revealed that she is “really proud” of the movie, and “bummed” that she’s unlikely to get the chance to reunite with co-stars Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska for further adventures.

““Well, to be honest with you, I think if I had made a movie that wasn’t good and one that I wasn’t proud of and a lot of people saw it, I would be devastated,” said Stewart in an interview with The Playlist. “Luckily I’m not feeling gutted because I really am proud of the movie… And I think that the kind of the climate that we’re living in right now is polarizing and it’s weird and it’s kind of hard to promote a movie like that. And I think trying to have a really complicated, overly politicized feminist conversation in a five minute TV interview about Charlie’s Angels… I’m like, ‘Dude, we just wanted to have a good time.’”

Charlie’s Angels has grossed just $55.8 million worldwide (a far cry from the $264.1 million haul of 2000’s Charlie’s Angels and the $259.1 million of Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle), and that appears to have killed any franchise hopes for the new team, with Stewart adding: “I’m bummed that we probably won’t make another one, but at the same time I’m really proud of the movie and I’m so happy that it exists and can live in the world. Because I think for a lot of people it’s still kind of important even in a very non-serious way.”

While another Charlie’s Angels won’t be happening any time soon, Stewart will be back on the big screen this January in the horror-thriller Underwater, and is currently preparing to star in the Clea DuVall-directed same-sex rom-com Happiest Season alongside Mackenzie Davis.

Charlie’s Angels have always provided security and investigative skills to private clients, and now the Townsend Agency has expanded internationally, with the smartest, most fearless, most highly trained women all over the globe – multiple teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs across the world. When a young systems engineer blows the whistle on a dangerous technology, these Angels are called into action, putting their lives on the line to protect us all.

Charlie’s Angels features a cast that includes Kristen Stewart (Twilight), Naomi Scott (Aladdin), Ella Balinska (Casualty), Elizabeth Banks (Brightburn), Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Sam Clafin (Adrift), Patrick Stewart (Logan), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Jonathan Tucker (Westworld).
