23 years ago Tom Cruise battled Lilo & Stitch at the box-office, as Minority Report went head-to-head with the 2002 animated original, and now almost a quarter-of-a-century later, the two unlikely foes are once again topping the charts with impressive results.
Disney’s live-action blockbuster had a sophomore frame of $63 million at the domestic box-office, lifting its total to a whopping $280 million after just ten days. Combine that with the $330 million that Stitch has earned overseas and the film has made $611 million worldwide. 2025’s high water mark is A Minecraft Movie, which currently sits at $947.1 million global, but Lilo & Stitch should have no trouble surfing past that before Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps stomp into town.
Paramount and Skydance’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning also saw a strong hold, with a second weekend of $27.2 million at the domestic box-office, and a running total of $122 million. Internationally the ‘final’ Mission took in $76.1 million, which was an impressive 33% decline. The Christopher McQuarrie-directed action-blockbuster has so far earned $353.8 million around the world.
Such figures meant that Karate Kid: Legends was left a little bruised at the box-office. It isn’t down-and-out, a production budget of just $45 million will see to that, but it landed a low blow with just $21 million in North American receipts. Overseas, where Legends opened early, a further $12 million was added to the legacy sequel’s prize-fund, for a worldwide tally of $47 million. Sony Pictures will be hoping that the Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan-headlined film will have the same kind of legs as the last feature in the franchise, 2010’s Karate Kid, which took $359 million globally.
Elsewhere the horror crowd were still seeking blood amongst the blockbusters, with Danny and Michael Philippou’s Brink Her Back finding a place in the U.S. Top 5 with a $7.1 million opening, Warner/New Line’s Final Destination: Bloodlines lifting its global tally to $229 million, and Sinners crossing the $350 mark.
