Lionsgate planning new Dirty Dancing film with original actress Jennifer Grey

August 7, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Get your dancing shoes ready and prepare to have the time of your life again, as we are getting a new Dirty Dancing film. During a Thursday conference call, Lionsgate confirmed the long-standing rumor that Jennifer Grey will return for another Dirty Dancing entry.

In July, Jon Feltheimer and the studio announced that they were teaming with Grey on a dancing movie, where she’d star and executive produce. At the time, no one would confirm if it was connected to her hit 1987 film, but we now have our answer with Feltheimer stating during the call that it is, in fact, a new Dirty Dancing movie:

“And to reveal one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood, we’re pleased to confirm that Jennifer Grey will both executive produce and star in a new Dirty Dancing movie for Lionsgate from Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine. It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise’s fans have been waiting for, and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the Company’s history.”

Released in 1987, the original Dirty Dancing is one of the most iconic movies of the 1980s and stars Grey as Frances “Baby” Houseman, a young woman on summer vacation who falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle, played by the late Patrick Swayze.
