It has been almost one week since Superman flew into theatres, but DC Studios is already gearing up for its next tentpole feature film with next summer’s Supergirl. Today DC and studio co-head James Gunn shared the first teaser poster for the film, which puts a spin on the tagline for her cousin’s latest adventure. Spoilers for Superman follow below the poster…
Throughout Superman, the Man of Steel is believed to be the last survivor of the planet Krypton after its destruction along with his dog Krypto, though he mentions his ownership of Krpyto is “more of a foster situation.”
By the end of the film, Supergirl makes a cameo appearance portrayed by Milly Alcock as she drunkenly stumbles into the Fortress of Solitude, thanks Superman for looking after Krypto and leaves with her dog. As Superman tells his faithful Robot 4/Gary, Supergirl travels to planets with red suns so she can get blackout drunk in order to deal with her mental state.
This sets up where we will see her next as her film is based off the graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, where she is found on a planet with a red sun getting drunk as she is still reeling from the trauma of Krypton’s destruction and being lost in space on a chunk of the planet which slowly turned into Kyptonite, killing thousands of the survivors as well as her parents.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely which follows Supergirl on a cosmic journey as she meets Ruthye Mary Knolle, a young girl whose father had recently been murdered and has begun a quest to avenge his death. Together they set out chasing the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills, the man who killed Ruthye’s father, across the galaxy in their attempts to bring him to justice and save other innocents.

Craig Gillespie (Cruella) is directing Supergirl from a script by Ana Nogueira. The film stars Milly Alcock as Supergirl/Kara Zor-El, with Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle, Jason Momoa as Lobo, Alice Hewkin as a Sklarian Raider and David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as the parents of Kara Zor-El.
Supergirl is set for release on June 26th 2026.
