Lovecraft Country showrunner would love to do a limited series adaptation of Stephen King’s It

October 28, 2020 by Liam Waddington

The first season of Lovecraft Country ended earlier this month, and while the HBO series is still yet to be renewed for a second season, showrunner Misha Green has announced the horror project she would like to work on.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Green discussed that her favourite novel is Stephen King’s It and how she would love to adapt the novel into a limited series for the small screen.

“I’m still very much excited about making Cleopatra Jones a female Black Bond. But I would love to do a limited series of Stephen King’s It,” Green said. “It’s my favourite novel of all time, but it’s such a thick book that you need time to sit with every character and really get into their fear. You could do a two-hour movie, but imagine a seven-season It.”

The popular Stephen King novel has previously been adapted into a TV mini-series in 1990 with Tim Curry taking on the role of Pennywise. However, the 1986 novel was most recently adapted into two feature films by director Andy Muschietti including 2017’s It and 2019’s It Chapter Two starring Bill Skarsgård in the titular role. The first of the two movies grossed over $701 million at the box office and received mostly positive reviews, while the second film grossed $473 million but received mixed reviews from critics with some criticism being aimed towards its almost three-hour runtime.

Green continued to explain that not only would she love to adapt It, but she would also be interested in doing “something with vampires” and brought up Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire.

“Yeah, we need Interview With the Vampire vampires,” Green said. “Imagine a multicultural Interview With the Vampire. What does that look like from all those different angles going through centuries of American history?”
