Lucasfilm has no plans to restore the unaltered cuts of the original Star Wars trilogy

April 25, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Although George Lucas has made numerous changes to the original Star Wars trilogy over the years, with those versions having been released on Blu-ray and other such formats, there is still plenty of fan demand for the unaltered versions of the Original Trilogy to see a restored home entertainment release.

There were rumors earlier this year that something like this was in the works now that George Lucas has no involvement with the Saga, with claims that the films would be released this year to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the first movie.

Well, it looks like we now have official confirmation Kathleen Kennedy that the original cuts will never again see the light of day, with the Lucasfilm chief telling MovieWeb: “I wouldn’t touch those, are you kidding me? [Laughs] Those will always remain his.”

Oh well. At least there is still Star Wars: The Last Jedi to look forward to. Also, although Kathleen Kennedy mentions never touching the Original Trilogy, the golden rule in Hollywood is that money talks, so I would never rule anything out.
