Yesterday it was reported that J.J. Abrams might be leaving a galaxy far far away, and that new writers were close to being attached to his previous star baby for Star Trek 3.
Well… maybe not.
Overnight, Lucasfilm issued a sternly worded rebuttal to IGN (who didn’t originally report the story) about the rumours that J.J. Abrams could vacate the director’s chair on Star Wars: Episode VII. In their statement Lucasfilm said, “There is no truth to the rumor. J.J. is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year.”
So that’s that then.
Badass Digest writer Devin Faraci was the chap who started this rumour, claiming that “This has been something I’ve heard for a while now, and from multiple insiders. I know that he didn’t want to shoot the movie in England and was overruled, but that happened a while ago. This weekend at Comic Con I continued to hear these whispers. No director for ‘Trek 3‘ has been found yet— might Abrams end up coming back after all, leaving ‘Star Wars‘ to someone else? I’m expecting Star Wars news out of the German Star Wars Celebration at the end of the month— if there is some sort of announcement of a title or casting and Abrams isn’t there, start wondering.”
Since the first piece of ‘news’ has been confirmed as false now, is the news of new writers for Star Trek 3 also doubtful?
Time will tell, but for now at least we know Star Wars: Episode VII is still in the hands of the master of lens flare.
