Paris-based production company EuropaCorp has announced at CineEurope that it is currently developing a sequel to last year’s hit action film Lucy.
Written and directed by Luc Besson, Lucy starred Scarlett Johansson as a reluctant drug mile who acquires extraordinary abilities after absorbing a volatile experimental drug and sets out for revenge. Produced on a budget of $40 million, the film was a big hit around the globe, grossing $458.9 million wordwild.
Besson had previously stated that Lucy 2 was “unlikely”, but it seems the the success of the first film has convinced him otherwise. At this point, there’s no word on whether Scarlett Johansson will return, although you’d have to expect the sequel would hinge on her involvement.
