Luther creator rules out fourth series, planning a movie version

August 25, 2013 by admin

Speaking at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Luther creator Neill Cross has confirmed that the hit BBC One crime drama will not return for a fourth series, although he has once again expressed his interest in taking Idris Elba’s Detective Chief Inspector to the big screen to wrap things up with a Luther movie.

“There is none,” said Cross when asked about the future of the TV series (via Digital Spy). “The show’s finished. Irdris, as he should be, he’s gone on to be a big movie star. I think there will be a Luther movie – that’s the plan.”

Since Luther premiered in May 2010, Elba has appeared in a number of big-budget Hollywood blockbusters, including Thor, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Prometheus and Pacific Rim. He will soon be seen in the superhero sequel Thor: The Dark World while there’s already plenty of awards buzz around his upcoming turn as Nelson Mandela in the biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
