Margot Robbie & Brad Pitt producing The Thin Man remake

October 10, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment have joined forces to acquire the rights to the classic Thin Man film series.

According to Deadline the two joined forces to win a hotly contested auction for the popular series of films, which kicked off in 1934 with W.S. Van Dyke’s comedy-mystery film The Thin Man.

Starring William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles, a wealthy couple who enjoy the high-life. He is a retired private detective and she is wealthy heiress accustomed to high society, and together they decide to solve a murder just for the fun of it.

Nominated for Best Picture at the 1934 Academy Awards, The Thin Man‘s success meant it spawned five sequels – After the Thin Man (1936), Another Thin Man (1939), Shadow of the Thin Man (1941), The Thin Man Goes Home (1945), Song of the Thin Man (1947) – so there’s little surprise that with that kind of franchise potential the rights were snapped up by the prolific producers.
