Margot Robbie is happy to see so many different Harley Quinn portrayals in 2024

January 6, 2024 by EJ Moreno

As Margot Robbie possibly closes the door with her time at DC following the end of the DC Extended Universe and its impending reboot, the actress is seemingly overjoyed to see Harley Quinn still dominating pop culture.

Speaking to Variety during the awards season promoting her film Barbie as well as the project she produced, Saltburn, Robbie was asked if she’s going to be returning for another outing under the new DC Studios.

Keeping coy, Robbie evaded the question and said it might be time to see a few new versions of Harley Quinn take over…for now.

“I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters,” said Robbie. “That was always the dream for her. Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ”What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”

2024 is shaping up to be quite the year for Harley Quinn. We’ll see the character in three different mediums, played by other actresses this year: Tara Strong will voice the role for the video game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Kaley Cuoco is returning for another season of the animated Harley Quinn series, and Lady Gaga makes her DC debut in the film Joker: Folie a Deux.

Robbie already spoke about Lady Gaga taking on the role back in 2022, making a similar statement about how happy she is to see the role grow.

Joaquin Phoenix reprises his Oscar-winning role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, along with Zazie Beetz’s Sophie, while other new additions to the cast for the sequel include Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) as Harley Quinn and Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), Harry Lawtey (Industry), Catherine Keener (The Adam Project), and Jacob Lofland (Mud) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Joker: Folie À Deux is slated to release on October 4th, 2024.
