Variety is reporting that Barry Films (Life) is teaming up with producer Marianne Maddalena (Scream) for a TV adaptation of Sebastien Cauchon’s novel Marilyn 1962, which explores the final months of the iconic Marilyn Monroe.
Planned as a 10-episode miniseries, Marilyn 1962 “sheds light on what Monroe’s life and psyche was like in the year of her death, through the perspectives of 12 people in her entourage – from her feared publicist to her controversial doctor.”
“We are very excited to work on bringing this unexplored, very intimate view on the real person who Marilyn Monroe was to the screen, thanks to the unprecedented insights which Sebastien Cauchon’s meticulously researched book provides,” said executive producer Michel Merkt (Elle).
Monroe, whose credits included the likes of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire, The Seven Year Itch and Some Like It Hot, died in August 1962 aged 36. Her death was ruled a probable suicide due to an overdose, although several conspiracy theories have since emerged ranging from accidental overdose to murder.
