It’s quite possible that Thor: Ragnarok is Marvel’s wildest movie to date. Critics seem to agree that the film is a wild departure from the MCU’s established formula. On paper, the concept must have seemed absolutely bonkers, and that wasn’t lost on star Mark Ruffalo. The actor, talking to Collider, the Hulk actor reveals that he felt slightly apprehensive about breaking the established mold with Thor: Ragnarok:
“Do you know how many times I was like, ‘Are we breaking the Marvel universe? We threw everything out. We started all over again with this. We threw the Thor franchise out. We threw everyone’s perception of Banner out. We threw everyone’s perception of Hulk out. We threw everyone’s perception of Thor out. And, yes, we knew what we were doing. At the same time we were like, ‘Let’s just do it, and let’s go for it, and let’s do it the best and most honest and fun way that we can.’ Taika did that, and he wasn’t afraid of that … so we improvised a lot and we played … and that playfulness is really appealing on-screen.”
Sometimes taking a risk pays off, and it certainly did for Thor: Ragnarok. Director Taika Waititi has expressed interest in returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and one wonders how he may top his latest achievement.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.
