Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige says there’s “nothing imminent” with regards to Blade

October 12, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2013, Marvel reacquired the screen rights to three of its characters in Daredevil, Ghost Rider and Blade. Since then, we’ve seen The Man Without Fear headling his own Netflix show, and the Spirit of Vengeance making his debut in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., while all fans of the Daywalker have had to go on is unsubstantiated rumours from dubious sources.

This weekend at New York Comic Con, Kate Beckinsale suggested that Eric Brooks could be set for a return to the screen, stating that Blade is unavailable for a crossover with Underworld’s Selene as Marvel “are doing something” with the character. Well, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has backed up that report in an interview with The Playlist, although he also stressed that “there is nothing imminent”.

“They did ask a long time ago and I think our answer was, ‘No, we’ll do something with Blade at some point.’ That’s still the answer,” said Feige. “We still think he’s a great character. He’s a really fun character. We think [Doctor Strange] going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that rather than team up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.”

Given that Marvel has a rather packed slate on both the film and TV side of things at present, it would seem likely that Blade fans could have a lengthy wait on their hands before we see the Daywalker joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How would you like to see Blade integrated into the MCU? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
