Marvel’s Black Widow moved up to October in the UK

May 14, 2020 by Gary Collinson

The global health crisis may have pushed back Marvel’s entire Phase Four movie slate by some six months, but we do have some small comfort for UK fans, as Disney has decided to move up the release of the Scarlett Johansson-headlined Black Widow on this side of the Atlantic.

The film – set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War – had been redated for November 6th, and while that currently remains the case in North America, Black Widow will now open on October 28th in the UK.

Of course, given the current situation and the possibility of a second wave later in the year, all theatrical release dates remain tentative at present.  As it stands, the UK government has set a provisional date of July 4th for cinemas to reopen in the country.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Black Widow is being directed by Cate Shortland (Lore) and sees Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanoff alongside Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family) as Yelena Belova, O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Mason, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina Vostokoff/Iron Maiden, and Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) and Olivier Richters (The King’s Man) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on October 28th in the UK and on November 6th in North America.
