Marvel’s Kevin Feige says the Spider-Man reboot will have a “John Hughes vibe”

June 29, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Marvel chief Kevin Feige is currently out on the press tour for Ant-Man, but it seems – unsurprisingly – that many of the questions the producer is fielding relates to the upcoming introduction of Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

We’ve already brought you some comments from Feige about working with Sony on the reboot and integrating Tom Holland’s wall-crawler into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now the producer has been speaking to Birth.Movies.Death about taking Spidey back to high-school in the reboot, citing the legendary John Hughes as an inspiration for their new take.

“It’s the soap opera in high school, and those supporting characters, that are interesting. Just as we hadn’t seen a heist movie in a long time, or a shrinking movie in a long time, we haven’t seen a John Hughes movie in a long time. Not that we can make a John Hughes movie – only John Hughes could – but we’re inspired by him, and merging that with the superhero genre in a way we haven’t done before excites us.”

The as-yet-untitled Spider-Man reboot is set for release on July 28th 2017, with Jon Watts (Cop Car) set to direct.
