Matthew McConaughey tipped for villain role in The Stand

November 25, 2014 by Thomas Roach

Matthew McConaughey has been tipped to play the villain of the movie adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand directed by Josh Boone. According to The Guardian, Matthew McConaughey will play Randall Flagg, a grinning cowboy with supernatural powers who establishes a power base in the ruins of Las Vegas.

The project is being backed by Warner Bros. and has been in development for some time. Ben Affleck and David Yates were both attached to the project as director before the appointment of The Fault in Our Stars helmer Boone. Originally the adaptation was written to be a single film but Warner Bros. is now planning to make this into four movies.

This isn’t the first time that McConaughey has been linked to the film, with Boone stating back in August that he was keen to cast the Interstellar star, along with Christian Bale. So, it is of course possible that The Guardian is simply rehashing this old report…

Currently The Stand has no release date.
