Matthew Vaughn wants to tackle a Fantastic Four reboot

September 20, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, X-Men: First Class) has recently talked about a few dream projects of his. The first is a potential Man of Steel sequel (which he describes as a “modern version” of the Richard Donner Superman), the second an X-Men filmed centered around a young Wolverine, and the third … well, let’s just say that he is a brave man.

Vaughn recently chatted with Cinema Blend where he divulged that he is eager for an impossible project: rebooting The Fantastic Four. In his own words…

“The other one I’ve felt an obligation to do is, I wouldn’t mind maybe making a Fantastic Four film to apologize to everyone out there that maybe it didn’t go very well for them. It’s brilliant. One of my favorites is the Fantastic Four, so maybe one day I’ll try and rectify the mistake.”

It’s hard to think of anyone who actually liked 2015’s abysmal Fantastic Four reboot. Director Josh Trank has disowned the film, while the lead actors seem to be pretending that the film never happened to begin with. Many view the movie as the definitive killing stroke for Fox’s time with Marvel’s First Family. Would anyone be able to save the franchise so soon?

Despite the failure of the last movie, it is rumoured that a new “kid-centric” reboot is in development, while Fox has also tapped Legion’s Noah Hawley to develop a Doctor Doom solo film.
