Michel Hazanavicius secretly shooting remake of Fred Zinnemann’s The Search

October 8, 2013 by admin

Michel Hazanavicius earned wide acclaim with his ode to classical silent film The Artist back in 2012. The film gained him the coveted title of Best Director, and set a lot of eyes on Hazanavicius in terms of future projects. In early 2012 it was reported Michel had his eyes on another classic project, a remake of Fred Zinnemaan’s touching post-war drama The Search (1948). After some speculation over context, setting, and cast, Cineuropa are reporting Hazanavicius has been shooting the film since August.

Other details include that the film has been mostly shot in Georgia, with plans to shoot in Paris soon. Female star of The Artist and wife of Michel Hazanavicius, Bérénice Bejo, has been confirmed to play a lead in the film. Other sources also rumour the casting of Hollywood veteran Carloyn Burnham (American Beauty).

The story for The Search involves the harrowing story of a Czech mother attempting to reunite with her son, after surviving the harsh conditions of a concentration camp. Michel Hazanavicius has already shown us he has a keen directorial eye, and a penchant for bringing classic material to life. More news as it comes.
