Millennium puts Red Sonja on hold in the wake of Bryan Singer controversy

February 11, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Despite the fact that Millennium Films CEO Avi Lerner came out in defence of the director’s appointment late last month following the latest round of allegations of sexual misconduct, Deadline is reporting that the Bryan Singer-helmed Red Sonja reboot has been put on hold.

According to the site, Millennium has announced that the big-budget fantasy reboot – which would have netted Singer a $10 million payday – “the project is not on the slate at the moment and is not for sale at the EFM in Berlin.”

Lerner had initially responded to the allegations by pledging his support for Singer, stating that he “knows the difference between agenda driven fake news and reality” and that Singer is innocent until proven guilty.

However, he then went on to state that his comments “came out the wrong way. I think victims should be heard and this allegation should be taken very, very seriously,” he said last week. “I just don’t agree to judge by Twitter. I want [the accused] to be judged by the court.”

At present, Singer remains attached to the project in an official capacity, but whether that will continue to be the case for much long remains to be seen. We shall keep you posted.
