The Mummy reboot seems to shedding directors like mouldy bandages. Len Wiseman (Underworld) left the production last year due to scheduling conflicts. Hired in his place was Andres Muschietti (Mama). But now he has left, with his ideas of a darker take on the property clashing with Universal’s more family orientated approach.
This wouldn’t be the first time the series has been rebooted, with the Brendan Fraser films themselves a reboot of the films that were made in the 1930s and 40s. That series was left dormant after a spoof was created in the 1950s, and with 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor being pretty laughable itself perhaps it’s the right time to start again.
Scripted by Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts and produced by Sean Daniels, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the reboot is rumoured to be set in modern day.
