NBC calls time on Timeless again, but may wrap things up with a movie

June 23, 2018 by Gary Collinson

For the second year in a row, NBC has cancelled its time-travel series Timeless, although talks are apparently underway with regards to wrapping the show up and the season two finale cliffhanger with a two-hour movie.

Timeless was first cancelled last May after the season one finale, but opted to reverse its decision and renew the show for a second season due to the efforts of the passionate, vocal fanbase.

It’s understood that Sony TV, which produces Timeless, has been shopping the series to other outlets, but according to co-creator Eric Kripke, these efforts have been unsuccessful so far:

Gutted by this, guys, I know you are too. Behind the scenes, Sony has been trying hard to set it up elsewhere, but no luck so far. I think this 2 hour movie is our best shot. We're ready to make it if @nbc really wants it. Let 'em know how you feel. #clockblockers https://t.co/arNi9iS9GF

The options on the cast expire on June 30th, and Sony is not planning to extend these, meaning that if NBC does intend on moving ahead with a movie finale the talent will all need to make new deals. However, this is not expected to be an issue should the network decide to proceed.
