Netflix has placed an eight episode series order for the fantasy Shadow and Bone, which is based upon author Leigh Bardugo’s ‘Grishaverse‘ book series and has Arrival and Bird Box writer Eric Heisserer attached to serve as writer and showrunner.
As per THR, Shadow and Bone takes place “in a world divided in two by a massive barrier of perpetual darkness that hides monsters who feast on human flesh [and] follows a young soldier who discovers she has a power that could unite her country, but dangerous forces plot against her.”
The series will incorporate elements of Bardugo’s novels Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, both of which take place in the same shared world populated by Grisha – people who possess supernatural abilities.
Heisserer and Bardugo will both serve as executive producers on the series alongside Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry of 21 Laps and Pouya Shahbazian of New Leaf Literary & Media.
