Netflix orders Sex Education with Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield

May 17, 2018 by Ricky Church

Netflix has ordered a new dramedy series called Sex Education starring The X-Files lead Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game). It comes from the British production company Eleven Film.

Anderson will star as a sex therapist while Butterfield will portray her son, Otis Thompson. Otis is a socially awkward high school virgin who lives his mother. He teams up with “whip-smart bad-girl” Maeve to set up a clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems. Joining Anderson and Butterfield in the series are Ncuti Gatwa (Stonemouth), Connor Swindells (Harlots) and Kedar Williams-Stirling (Will)

Sex Education was created by Laurie Nunn. The series is produced in the UK for a 2019 premiere. It will be executive produced by Eleven Film co-founders Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson and will be directed by Ben Taylor (Catastrophe).

Anderson was most recently seen in the first season of Starz’s American Gods, though she will reportedly not return for its second season, and will be seen appear in The Spy Who Dumped Me.
