Netflix renews Heartstopper for two more seasons

May 21, 2022 by Ricky Church

Netflix’s romantic dramedy series Heartstopper has been renewed by the streamer for not one but two more seasons.

Heartstopper is based on Alice Oseman’s webcomic and graphic novel which follows two young boys in secondary school as they discover their feelings for one another and must help support the other in their journeys of self discovery.

Oseman said of the renewal “We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons. Watch this space!” She also shared a video of her drawing her two central characters Charlie and Nick to celebrate the announcement, which you can see below.

The series premiered on Netflix in April and stars Kit Connor, Joe Locke, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Olivia Coleman, Stephen Fry and more. The first season of eight episodes covers the first two volumes of the series. It is unknown how long season two and three will be or how many volumes they will cover. Oseman created the series adaptation and will return as writer for the second and third seasons.

When gentle Charlie (Locke) and rugby-loving Nick (Connor) meet at secondary school, they quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance. Charlie, Nick and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.
