Netflix’s Monster: Ed Gein adds Laurie Metcalf, Olivia Williams, and Tom Hollander

October 17, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster anthology series is preparing for its third season, and it’s shaping up to be the most chilling yet.

Murphy has already announced that he has cast Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) as the titular killer, but now we have rounded out the supporting cast.

Joining Hunnam are Laurie Metcalf as Ed Gein’s mother, Tom Hollander as Alfred Hitchcock, and Olivia Williams as Alma Hitchcock. As of this writing, Netflix has yet to announce any additional castings.

Gein was a serial killer who was active in the 1950s and known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul. He murdered two women and was suspected of many more. Still, the true reason for Gein’s infamy was for exhuming corpses and allegedly making household items and clothing out of the remains. Gein inspired Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs.

Monster was created by Murphy and Ian Brennan. The first season premiered on Netflix in 2022 and starred Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer, while season 2 shifted the focus to Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted in 1996 of the murder of their parents.

Season 1 and Season 2 of Monster are streaming on Netflix.
