New Friday the 13th video game in development

It’s a good time to be a fan of Camp Crystal Lake. There is a new TV series in the works as well as a thirteenth movie set to be released this November, and now Friday the 13th and Jason are heading back to the video game world for a new game too.

EGM has learned that a new Friday the 13th game is in development across several platforms, set to be released in October 2015. The game will be an “asymmetrical, co-operative and competitive multiplayer predator/prey horror experience” that will see you either play the victims, or Jason himself.

“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth instalment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form,” says Friday the 13th creator Sean S. Cunningham. “We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”

This will be the first Friday the 13th branded game since the infamously bad Friday the 13th on the NES in 1989.

According to Cunningham, an experienced developer has now taken over the reigns, and should be announcing something official in the next couple of weeks. As a bit of fun, let’s remind ourselves of how frustrating that NES game was…
