Get a new look at Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker on Italian magazine cover

August 15, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

With a little over two weeks to go until Joker makes its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, Italian Magazine Il Venerdi has revealed their cover featuring Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic DC villain; check it out via the Twitter link below…

Ecco la copertina de #ilVenerdì speciale di #ferragosto la prima immagine di Joaquin Phoenix nei panni del Joker. All'interno l'intervista esclusiva. E poi uno speciale giochi di 10 pagine. In edicola con @repubblica anche nei prossimi giorni #JokerMovie https://t.co/43N5fGRgQU

“I started [with the laugh],” said Phoenix in an interview with the magazine, discussing how he went about developing his take on the Clown Prince of Crime. “I watched videos of people suffering from pathological laughter, a neurological disorder that makes individuals laugh uncontrollably.”

Joker centers around the iconic arch-nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.

Joker is set for release on October 4th 2019 and stars Joaquin Phoenix (The Sisters Brothers), Robert De Niro (Goodfellas), Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Bill Camp (Red Sparrow), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Brett Cullen (Narcos), Glenn Fleshler (Billions), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Marc Maron (GLOW), Josh Pais (Motherless Brooklyn), Shea Whigham (Kong: Skull Island), Douglas Hodge (Robin Hood) and Dante Pereira-Olson (You Were Never Really Here).
